Julia Fiona Roberts is the daughter of Betty Lou Bredemus, and Walter Grady Roberts. She was born on 28 October 1967, in Atlanta. Her great-grandfather John Pendleton Roberts, a farmer, was the first Roberts to settle in Atlanta. In the early years of his life the father of her mother became obsessed by the theater. He performed on the Emory University campus in 1952 as well as in various productions in Atlanta. While stationed in Biloxi, Mississippi, he was inducted into the air force in 1953. Betty Lou Bredemus was also in the production. They got married in 2005, and they had their first baby, Eric Anthony in 1956. The couple divorced in 1957. the air force and Walter enrolled in Tulane University in New Orleans Louisiana. In 1960, the family relocated to Decatur Georgia where Walter began working for Atlanta's Academy Theater and the Harrington Scenic and Lighting Studio. Walter and Betty Lou started production in 1964 for the local children's Saturday morning show on television called Bum Bum and His Buddies, which they funded themselves. They also created the six-year Actors and Writers Workshop later the same year. They welcomed in 1965 two children to the family: Lelisa Billingsley and Julia Billingsley.
