The initial inspiration came from shadows cast on grass. After a few weeks she devised a process that didn't create the object she chose onto canvas in an image that was flat. The chosen subject transforms into an image. This happens especially with living objects as well as those that are likely to perish, such as fruit or human beings. Alexa Meade's distinctive style of painting that is a bit ephemeral in the sense that it is amorphous, transparent. The only work from her work that is preserved is the photograph. Painting and photography are closely coordinated to create an unflattering two-dimensional space that is a trompe l'oeil. Certain places the three-dimensional space can be visible, like near the eye or the hair. Meade often integrates her paintings into the 3-dimensional world around them. They are able to interact with this self-created universe. This is a way of breaking down the barriers between photography, painting installation and performance.
